2020 Drapery Trends

Here are a few of the trends that will be going strong in 2020:

Styles

As interior design moves more into Maximalism, we anticipate that more elaborate window treatments will follow.  We are already seeing a modern take on classic styles such as contemporary casual swags over panels. Simple panels have been in style for this past decade and remain strong, but we are starting to see bolder colors and patterns as well as the addition of decorative trims. Curtain headings tend to favor structured or formal pleat styles. Navy and Ivory palettes are still popular, which we love since this color combination is also a classic palette.  Classic palettes never go out of style!

Trim

A flat braid on the leading edge of panels and even tassel fringe along a panel edge is popular.  Decorative tapes are growing in thickness with tapes now being 6” or larger.  Doubling up on trim by using a tape and a cord or gimp is a great way to keep a cleaner look along with creating a more custom, luxury feel.

Hardware

Along with simple soft treatment styles, drapery hardware follows. The French style curtain rod is popular, but we are also having a brass and gold moment. We suggest this finish in moderation and even mixing metals in a space because the silver tones seem to have longevity by always being popular. Finial, tieback and medallions still favor clean transitional or contemporary lines versus more ornate, traditional styles.

Southern Transitional

Our clients wanted something very special for their Master Bedroom. The wife came to us with two handmade cactus shaped pillows that she had acquired from her travels. She wanted us to use these pillows as the inspiration for the design. The view out of their window was so beautiful that we did not want to create drapery that would take away, but would accentuate the view and ultimately draw your eye out. We wanted to create custom drapes that were fun, bright, colorful, and had incredible detail. The beading, delicate ruched fabric, and medallions really took this look to the next level. These are the perfect mix of Boho and pure elegance!

Exquisite Dining Room Drapery

Our client wanted drapery that would compliment her existing dining room set. She had purchased the table and chairs a couple years back at market, but it was too large for the space in their old home. However, they had just moved into a new home and it was the perfect fit! We went for beauty, style, and pure elegance with these custom drapes. We chose to do one width of fabric for the main panel, a half width under drape, and a decorative tape band on the inside edge. Then we finished these stunning drapes with sleek gold hardware to play off the accents in the chandelier. These gorgeous drapes are definitely a showstopper!
