7 Reasons Why You'll be Excited about Custom Window Treatments

Robin Bond July 15, 2020

Custom window treatments are made to fit your windows. This may come as no surprise…but what you may not understand is how important this truly is.

Windows come in so many different shapes and sizes that if you don't purchase custom, it is likely the treatment will always look off. You don’t want to notice that and be reminded of your aesthetic frustration every time you look out your windows, do you?

Let’s dive right into the top 7 reasons why we think custom window treatments are a smart investment that will add value to your home for years to come. When you order custom, you will…

1. Double Your Drapery’s Life Expectancy

All of our drapery panels are made with double hems and, unless our client prefers otherwise, we always line our custom drapery and other window treatments with blackout lining. This is especially important due to the blazing hot Texas sun. This feature alone will easily double the life of your window treatments. We also use first run fabrics that are free of flaws. This results in a better looking window treatment.

2. Reduce Your Energy Bill

The blackout lining I mentioned above is also important because it better insulates your home by catching the hot or cold coming in through the seams of your windows. We only carry quality hard treatments such as shutters and roller shades. The materials used in the products further protect your home from hot or cold temperatures.

3. Increase Your Home’s Value

There is one window covering, in particular, that actually adds value to the selling price of your home…shutters. Shutters are considered a fixed element of your home and therefore can actually up your selling price when it comes time to list your home.

4. Add Beauty to Your Exterior

When window coverings fit properly, they look better from the exterior of your home. This will contribute to the curb appeal. City homes often look better if the front facing windows of the home all have the same or a similar type of treatment for a consistent look.

5. Ensure a Perfect Fit for Your Windows

Many of today's homes have arched windows, eyebrow shaped windows, or windows with transoms. A professional window covering designer will know how to discuss the pros and cons of covering these specialty windows to assure you will make the best purchase decision. As discussed earlier, a perfect fit is also easy on the eyes and easier on your emotions. No walking by daily thinking, "I hate that darn shade".

6. Bring Peace and Harmony to Your Space

Interior designers are trained to create harmony in spaces. Personalized window treatments with the appropriate color or pattern plays a big role in harmonious living. The proper window covering adds that layer of luxury that is both visually and emotionally appealing.

7. See a Return on Your Investment

Custom drapery and other soft window coverings are made to last 15 to 20 years with proper care. Yes, they are expensive, but if you pro-rate the cost over this amount of time, the investment is well worth it.

I jokingly tell clients, "I am a drapery snob". I am kind of joking and kind of not. My clients who make the investment in custom window coverings for the first time are always glad they did it and will agree with me. Once you purchase custom, there is no going back to ready-made, store-bought, ill-fitting window coverings. I guarantee that!

If you'd like a professional to help you pick the best window treatments for your space, contact us and we'd be happy to help.

Warmly,
Robin

Custom Window Treatments vs. Retail Options: Is there Really a Difference?

There is no comparison between custom treatments versus retail options. It is truly like comparing apples to oranges. Most retail options are made with lower quality materials and will not stand the test of time. Many of them will actually detract from a room’s beauty versus adding to it.

Custom treatments have a life span of 15 to 20 years or longer. This is due, in part, to the fact that we use high-quality, first-run materials, and thick linings that can stand up to the Texas sun. You will pay more for custom treatments up front but the upleveled look and pro-rated value of quality window coverings make them a wise investment over time.

Beauty, function, and longevity. These are all reasons to go custom.

Sneak Peek: How Custom Window Treatments are Made from Start to Finish

Step 1. Beginning the Thorough Window Treatment Consultation

When you contact our office, we will send you a questionnaire to obtain information concerning your window covering needs. We then offer a complimentary in-home consultation with one of our designers to narrow down options that will work best in your home.

Step 2. Obtaining Only the Best Raw Goods

Our firm sells only first-quality materials. Why is this important? A lot of online stores and retail locations sell end-of-the-bolt or seconds. These fabrics are often unstable and don't dress out as beautifully in your home.

Step 3. Inspecting All Materials to Guarantee Quality

Our seamstress inspects all of your components as they arrive to the workroom to make sure there are no defects. If any are found, the materials are returned and replacements requested. This is all done behind the scenes without any inconvenience to you.

Step 4. Determining Perfect Pattern Placement

Pattern matching within individual treatments and across windows is the type of attention to detail we provide. If there are three windows within a room, the pattern must line up within the space.

Step 5. Tabling, Sewing, and Stitching with Precision

Our seamstress has a large work table where she is able to use a grid to assure your treatments are cut straight and precise prior to assembling. To properly sew drapery panels and to apply trim, an industrial sewing machine and large work table are the preferred tools of the trade. The same quality can't be obtained without this kind of equipment.

Step 6. Packaging with Love for Safe Keeping

Once your treatments are made, they are styled and tied in protective plastic coverings for delivery to your home.

Step 7. Delivering and Installing the Dream Window Treatments

Your designer will meet our installer on-site. We have been working with our installers for over 15 years and they are the best in the business. A professional installation can make or break the look of certain window coverings. Once your treatments are installed, use a brush attachment on your vacuum and lightly clean quarterly to keep your treatments looking like new.
